Overview

This 2-day Zagora desert tour from Marrakech is ideal for travelers with limited time who wish to experience Morocco’s desert landscapes, camel trekking, and a night in a traditional Berber tent.

⚠️ Important note: Zagora is not a sand-dune desert like Merzouga. It is a rocky desert with small dunes, offering a desert atmosphere rather than vast Sahara dunes. Travelers seeking large sand dunes should consider longer routes toward Erg Lihoudi or Erg Chegaga, which require at least two additional days.

The journey crosses the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, visits the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, and continues through southern Morocco to the desert town of Zagora. Highlights include scenic mountain roads, historic kasbahs, a camel ride at sunset, and an overnight stay in a Berber desert camp with dinner and breakfast included.

This tour is best suited for first-time visitors who want a short desert experience combined with cultural and landscape highlights.

Highlights:
  • Crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2260m
  • Visit UNESCO's World Heritage Site, the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou
  • Camel trek to a traditional Berber tent for the night
  • Cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains, passing through Ouarzazate
